IDEA OF THE SYSTEM

The idea of the telemedic system proposed is based on the use of commercial, commonly accessible telecommunication networks for data transmission from pocket PDA computers equipped with GPRS transmitters and connected to lightweight cardiotocographs located at patient homes.

PDA computer plays in the system a role of an input device, communicating and exchanging data with the cardiotocograph as well as a device for preliminary car-diotocographic data processing using specialist software as a part of the system. Moreover, according to the installed GPRS/UMTS transmitters, the PDAs allow data transmission through the ground network of cellular telephony and next by the internet to the main server of the surveillance centre located at a hospital. A very essential element of the surveillance centre server is the software, allowing fast and automatic classification of currently processing CTG traces to the set of correct traces. The prototype system built within the project will be able to handle up to 10 input channels (PDA + CTG) simultaneously. Furthermore, from the surveillance centre the received CTG data may be send on-line to medical consultants if needed or to the leading obstetrician selected by the woman.
